Getting ready for the basement!

It was a COLD day yesterday in Floyd, and so we had on everything we had laying in the car. (hence the interesting fashion statement of polarfleece and little suede jacket) With our "mud" shoes on, we checked out the site. They now have the forms up to pour the basement walls! We found this process very interesting. With using one solid form, instead of cinder block, we will hopefully protect against any water leakage in the basement. We could also see where the fireplace was going to be. Although we are still wondering what a small circular spot of cement is on the basement floor. Hum, a support for the stairs? Place to put the water heater? Or did they just drop some cement there and they thought they would leave it just to mess with our minds? (we can see James the Builder sitting there snickering to himself....yes, gonna make 'em wonder what it's for...)

Enjoy the new photos, and see you next week!

Happy Easter!

The Easter Bunny brought us a great surprise today! Our address and our first piece of mail! At first we thought the mailbox was somehow being used by the contractor for HIS mail? Construction mail? But no, it turned out that the bunny had brought us the actual mail box put up by David's grandfather, Papa, in 1937 when he and Mama moved into their first house. We are excited to keep it safe and have it for our houseguests to see.

The footers for the foundation have been poured, and the forms of the basement walls should be coming along soon. We do have two new additions.....an electric pole and a modern outhouse courtesy of Montgomery Sanitation. It was very windy today!! We actually saw a few new calves blow away.

We will post a new update next week! Stay tuned!

Groundbreaking!

We broke ground on Thursday, March 13th in Floyd, VA! It is kind of surreal to FINALLY be building the house.....when David and I were driving back from the site today, we thought, "Wow, it really is here, and we are really paying them all that money to build it. Ack!" I don't think either of us thought we would be soooo happy about a big pile of dirt, but we are!

Progress was made in just a couple of days. They are looking to pour the footers for the foundation on Monday. Check back regularly for our updates! At this rate, who knows, they may have the roof on next week! (just kidding!)
